Wave 15 ThunderCats ULTIMATES! Review

In a year where there has been a lot of changes around the globe, one thing remained consistent – new ThunderCats from Super7. Wave 15 arrived as promised in June 2026. I have to give it to Super7; these days their delivery roster is really impressive. The last year has seen wave upon wave arrive without a glitch. That makes collecting a breeze. And a lot of fun. Gone are the days of delays. Hello presales!

So yes, Wave 15 was another presale. Very mush like Wave 14, these were premade by Super7 in limited quantities before the order went live. It was a risk they took and it clearly paid off. The response from collectors have been really good. There are some QC issues here and there, mostly minor, but I’ll get into that in a bit. The only big drawback from this wave was it’s limited Super Pack. No idea why this changed, as this was the drawcard to buy directly from Super7. Alas, I missed the window as it sold out in minutes. I got the wave in the end from Super7. It’s quite the assembly of characters. So let’s dive in.

Jagara has been the top most wanted figure since the line began – not counting completing the core teams of course, and having the Lunataks in toy form. I bugged Brian Flynn for years off camera. “Please make Jagara.” And here she is. Thanks Brian! She remains my favourite figure from the wave. But I’ll get the unpleasantness out of the way first.

If you watched my video review of this figure, you would’ve seen that the neck snapped as I put the alt head on. It didn’t break when I took the original head off. Only as I pushed the new head onto the ball joint. While superglue might fix it, I’d be stuck with a head I can’t replace. I was, as anyone would be, very disappointed that it broke. In all my years of collecting this line, I’ve never had any figure break. Until now. I was stoned by some for being too nice about it. Trust me, you can see the disappointment in my face when you watch the whole thing. And yes, that was a live reaction you saw from me. I’m an optimistic person by nature, so even things like this don’t get me down. There’s no use making a scene about it. I reached out to Super7, and Rudy, ever the pro, responded courteously and within 48 hours that Super7 would be happy to send me a replacement. So my new Jagara is on the way. While it will take two to three weeks to get here, I’m really happy with the customer service and care Super7 has shown. Thank you guys!

Now that that’s out of the way, there was one other tiny disappointment, and that was her stoic / main face. While you can’t really see it from a distance, up close you can see that the purple line that ties around her chin was not painted as precise as it should’ve been, and there was unfortunately some bleeding onto her face. From afar you don’t notice it, but in hand you can see where the raised bit is and where the paint went outside of this surface. The alt “smiling” head does not have that issue. And commenting on that head, it did not seem to be as cheerful as the solicitations made it out to be, BUT I actually like this one more. In fact, this is my go to head going forward. It brings out her personality, and I noticed that depending on how you tilt her head and incorporate her hands, that expression also changes. Clever!

My final complaint about this figure is the blast effect. While its similar to the other blast effects, this one is protruding from her open palm, just like the new Mumm-Ra. Unfortunately, the peg sticking out from her hand looks like a huge growth, and the effect does not go all the way back against her palm, like it does with Mumm-Ra. I managed to take it off, so I will be cutting that piece down to make it fit better. It’s a fantastic effect. The execution was just not the same as with Mumm-Ra’s; so I know it is possible. I know another friend of mine had the same issue. Perhaps a bad batch?

She does have a great selection of hands, and what I love about them is that they’re very expressive. Her sharp fingers point in all directions in some of these hands, which is so Jagara, and so cool. Let this ThunderCat sorceress do her thang! She’s mystical and quirky, and these hands (even the pointed finger!) captures her characteristics perfectly.

She comes with a regular sized Sword of Omens, which is nice and shiny. She also comes with the Gyroscope Regulator. Now this one is way more cartoon accurate, and smaller, than the one that came with Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living in Wave 2. I love this tiny throwback to that 5-parter where New ThunDera was falling apart – all because of this. The Sword of Omens saved it in the end. The only thing missing from her is perhaps an evil Jaga head, where Mumm-Ra disguised himself as Jaga to warn her of the false ThunderCats. Poor Jagara didn’t stand a chance. And Mumm-Ra certainly didn’t make her life easier later on when that uhm, not robot – but S.A.P. – showed up. Screwloose’s episode was a fun one, and poor Jagara really needed help. The drama queen made sure we knew that she’s been working non stop since the dawn of time. Makes you wonder where she went when the planet exploded….

Articulation wise she has all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a female character. I like her plastic dress which allows for ample movement. She has Cheetara’s legs underneath, just in purple, but that’s cool, because she floated a lot in the show. Her cape is one of my favorite things. Besides being wired, it is two toned as well, and the front and back are different shades of purple that really adds to her beauty. Her soft plastic head dress makes moving her head easy. So you can have all kinds of dynamic poses. Just, as mentioned above, fair warning with that neck. Heat it up.

She is still my favourite from the wave, and now that I’ve ticked her off my list, I’m hoping for another purple character: THE DRILLER. But back to Wave 15.

UPDATE: Super7’s Rudy was a true help in replacing Jagara. Not only did I receive a new Jagara figure still in its packaging, they sent me two! One to keep boxed and one to open. This new one had no issues after I ensured I heated up the neck. Thank you Super7 and thank you Rudy for being so great.

Hot on the heels of his DX release comes the ULTIMATES! Mumm-Ra, aptly dubbed “Old Man”. Did we really need another Mumm-Ra? You bet we did. Although I am surprised that we got the DX version first, this one offers that little bit of luxury that you don’t get with the store bought one. There are subtle differences. ULT! M has some shading where the DX M does not. His cloak also feels like a better quality than the DX one. There is a clasp with the DX version, where this one is stitched together. I assume that the clasp was put in for safety purposes and demands by the stores. The detail on his face is a little sharper too than the DX one. Other than that, if you are not that bothered by any of these, get yourself the DX one in stores now. That figure is already fantastic.

So with this one, it is the little extras that make it better. I love the fact that we got the alt head with the helmet of Pharnoor with this release. I’m sure a lot of people would’ve been unhappy had that head been in the Super Pack. I can now display both versions of Mumm-Ra by using the DX for this alt head. Seeing him wear that helmet has always been one of my favourite memories from the cartoon. It is however very tricky to get the head on with the soft goods cloak, so best preheat the neck joint and the alt head for an easier connection.

His blast effect is a win. And since Jagara’s isn’t great, I was worried his might not be either. But it is fantastic. I’m only disappointed that we didn’t get two. The many other extra hands are great as well, and since Mumm-Ra is always up to no good, there’s a hand for every occasion.

Mentioned the cloak again quickly – apart from it being wired for magical poses, the inside is navy and not just plain red as with the Wave 1 release. I never picked that up, as I always thought it was just shadow, but with Super7 going this route, it really does make him look way more cartoon accurate. The white dots on the eyes is also something that is very different from the Wave 1 release, which didn’t have it. This makes him look even more cartoon accurate.

One thing that is not cartoon accurate, is of course the staff. Now in the 1985 toon Mumm-Ra never had a staff. It was only the vintage toy that introduced us to one. It showed up with the Mattel version, and then again with Super7’s Wave 1 (and Evil Glow BBTS exclusive). It also, finally, appeared in the show’s reimaged “Roar” cartoon counterpart. That was great to see. Now this time round, Super7 gave us an updated staff, which is their interpretation of what a cartoon version could have been like. And while it feels 80s, it also reminds me of the “Roar” staff. Which is a nice touch. Yeah yeah, I know, not many of you out there like that show.

Having Mumm-Ra available again for the frist time in over 7 years is wonderful. To think, he was once the exclusive for buying the full wave, and he went for crazy prices. When Super7 took over the line, he was the first to be included in Wave 1, which I bet made many collectors happy who could not buy him before. Since that Glow-Ra version sold out, he never appeared again. Until now. And the fact that Wizz-Ra is in this wave as well, and he has specific ties to him, was very clever of Super7 to do.

So my verdict on this figure is simple – it’s a win. If you don’t want all the bonus goodies that I am always gaga about, the DX version is a great substitute. But man this little bit of superiority in the ULT! version is just magnificent.

Wizz-Ra is one of those one-off characters that had a far longer shelf-life in our memory banks than someone like Jagara had. I blame it on the Panini Sticker Book. There are several characters there that I really want – like Queen Tartara and her Guards alongside the Arietta Bird. The stories featured there were read countless times by myself as a kid. Mainly because I didn’t have the show on VHS, and it made for a fun feature having to collect stickers to complete it. Dimension Doom was one of those stories, and this love story between him and Cheetara was just wonderful.

Wizz-Ra was originally planned for Wave 14. When that wave leaked last year, there was a lot of excitement. Then when the wave went up for presale, he wasn’t even there. Brian Flynn said there was an issue at the factory during his production, and to avoid delaying Wave 14 further, they went ahead with the other two, and pushed him back to Wave 15, making this wave a collection of 4 characters, vs the new norm of 3. From Wave 16 onwards, we’ll be seeing the standard 3 again. So your pockets can breathe one more.

Getting Wizz-Ra in hand though was a time travelling trip in its own right. His enchanted helmet of Pharnoor is certainly iconic. Being able to get Mumm-Ra’s head with it on in this assortment of characters was clearly a win. It makes sense that the plan was for Mumm-Ra to come with that head seeing as he would’ve appeared in Wave 14.

Blast effects are here aplenty. It is the same sculpt reused, and I’m all for it, because it makes for a nice shelf presence. He however has two pointed right hands, which is very odd. I’m not sure why. The open “human” hands are so much fun. Magic powers can now be expressed through these open palms. And if that’s not enough, he does come with blue clear hands that are open too. There’s a scene in the show where his hands were blue with power. Just a side note – for some reason mine just broke as I took the pictures. I don’t know if the plastic was brittle, but I didn’t have any problems with it before. So be careful with yours.

The chain itself is the whips of the WilyTwins, which Wizz-Ra transformed when they were under Mumm-Ra’s spell, courtesy of the helmet, of course. It’s not the Chain of Loyalty…. LOL.

The cloak on Wizz-Ra is wired too, and is nice and shing as well. I am officially af an of this look on these figures. Some really pull it off. Now his cloack is glued to the breast plate tht covers his shoulder, so dont’ try to remove that piece which may seem to be loose.

The alt head with the powered- up eyes and shouting mouth is cool to have, but I would’ve much preferred the other stoic head here, which is in the Super Pack. I was under the impression that the helmet would be removable, and that it could go onto all the heads, but it now makes sense that it doesn’t, seeing as the stoic bald head is already on the figure with the helmet on top of it.

One cool thing I discovered for the first time is that this figure has sandals on, and this has never appeared in the ThunderCats line before. It was done really well by the designers and the factory workers who painted it. It could easily have been a flop, but it works really well. The boot cut is also a bonus for me. His white dress / kilt is bright and eye-catching, pairing well with his tanned torso and shiny golden braces. Even the helmet itself makes me smile. He stepped right of the cartoon.

Last but not least is thet mighty Zaxx. For those of you not familiar with him, he showed up near the tail end of the series. I love how he was introduced, and the story of his history with Mumm-Ra was very clever. Zaxx was probably a mutant, as this is the first time in a long time that we got another animal hybrid. I’m not looking at you Demolisher.

You might have missed it, but his ties to Mumm-Ra goes far beyond the toon. The Super7 line first included the Rosenkrantz Medallion with Mumm-Ra in Wave 1. It was originally menionted but never shown until a while later. That version is a lot smaller than the one here. For obvious reasons – it is way too small to fit on this figure’s neck. It’s nice to have both though, because the other smaller one you can use with regular figures. I like that they included the medallion with Zaxx’s face / torso on it, and that it was broken as in the toon. Even the back of the medallion, when flipped, shows the broken string. Super7 doesn’t miss any detail here or take shortcuts.

The wings are grand and they fit snug in the back, where they just plug in. They move well too, but heat them up before you play around with them. He has several hand choices too, and because he has two sets of arms, there’s plenty of options to display. The arms themselves are wonderfully engineered, and they move around without hinderance. Hats off to the guys who came up with this.

Now I mentioned that the medallion is much bigger this time round, and you don’t need to remove the head to place it on his shoulders. It goes around both heads, no matter which one you chooses to display, and while it is loose enough, it won’t just fall off. I’m glad because the heads were very tight to replace. While they’re nice and sturdy, and I wasn’t worried about anything breaking like with the thinner necks of Jagara and Mumm-Ra, I would recommend heating them up too. I did that after my first review when I was busy posing him for these photos, and it made replacing it a lot easier. It might also be that it’s winter here and the plastic behaves differently than when it is summer. Both portraits are great, and I’m not sure which one I like the most. Just be careful because he has sharp points on his head, and it can hurt you if you’re not careful when handling it.

The figure itself is very majestic. It’s huge, and I don’t for one second dispute the $85 pricetag. You get some bang for your buck here with this big fellow. Not to remind you that he has two sets of arms. And wings. And is a talking bird! The bright shiny gold of the breast plate and shoulder pads are just lovely. He has no ab-crunch, which I guess it totally fine considering that he has a very detailed piece of armor hiding most of his abdomen. But he does rotate and the skirt part, again beautifully detailed, allows for him to kick out his legs almost all the way to 180 degrees. This guy doesn’t have the X-Factor. He has the Zaxx-Factor!!!! That’s one mean birdie that Sylvester certainly won’t mess with.

Wave 15 may contain a selection of characters that you’re not very familiar with, and besides the new sculpt of Mumm-Ra being the big drawcard here, and Wizz-Ra being the second most popular character of the wave, Jagara is the last actual ThunderCat that still had to be made from the original cartoon (not counting the nameless owner of the Totem of Dera, who we saw briefly in that episode sporting the ThunderCats insignia on his chest). So even though she doesn’t have the insignia on her body, she is counted as an official ThunderCat as per the toon, so it’s great to have the nobles represented here again. Zaxx is a typical Super7 inclusion that surprises you from the far left and then hits you with a one-two on the right, just like the Velociraptors that jumped out of nowhere. It’s choices like this that makes collecting ThunderCats by Super7 very special. They’re still world building, 7 years later, and every wave is still a wonderful addition to the story on my shelf. Talking about shelves – if you haven’t seen the new Toy Shelf over at ThunderCats.Org, then you’d better head on over there to add these characters to your own personal Toy Shelf. As part of the team, we just discussed the future of this yesterday, and it’s really going to become the place where you’d want to display your collection. I still have to complete mine, so don’t point fingers at me. I also have to take my own advice.

In the meantime, if you haven’t gotten Wave 15 yet, you can still buy it from Super7 in stock here. Grab yours now.
