We finally have the first female character of the SilverHawks cartoon in action figure form. We’re halfway through the Wave 1 interviews with ToyBro, and we’ve now completed the core four adults of SilverHawks with the addition of Steelheart.
TC.org: We can finally complete our set of twins and this time we have the lovely Steelheart to grace our shelves with her beauty. Is she everything you expected her to be?
TB: Somewhat. I’m overall happy with her but she does have a lot of the same problems I have with the rest of the wave, and I find her to be less articulated than the others, which is a bit of a bummer.
TC.org: In terms of her paint, is she quite similar to Quicksilver or any of the others?
TB: She’s really close to her brother, unsurprisingly. I still think, however, the twins are the wrong color. I think she’s more blue than gray like Steelwill is. She still has that nice sparkle though, so the shine is present across all of them.
TC.org: Her body appears to be quite similar in terms of articulation when compared to Cheetara and Mandora from ThunderCats ULTIMATES!. Is that the case?
TB: Close but her torso, at least on mine, is super locked down. Where should could have some rocking motion at that cut, she really only swivels, otherwise though pretty standard Ultimates fare.
WWMTC: Would you have liked any other type of articulation?
TB: I’m going to keep saying it until I’m blue in the face. No more diaphragm cuts if they don’t do anything but swivel, that can be accomplished by a waist twist and you don’t have the break up the sculpt. That said, what I want is a full ball peg waist that has range similar to Mythic Legions, keep the torsos intact and give me that range at the hip/waist area and I’d be so happy.
WWMTC: We have similar types of hands with her as well. The basic assortment. Do they work for this character and would you have liked anything else or extra?
TB: I’m fine with the hands here, not sure I need too much else really. Fists and flight hands are the main thing I need, so to get extra is a bonus, especially when she has gripping hands but nothing to hold.
WWMTC: Her laser effects appear to be similar to that of Quicksilver. Are they replicas or are they indeed smaller to fit her body type?
TB: They seem pretty similar to me and they work across both figures. I’m going to have more of these things than I know what to do with now.
WWMTC: Two version of Rayzor is included here. Can they be perched on her forearm too?
TB: Absolutely, and I find they fit on her really well too especially with Rayzor being a little more compact with the “wing out” version. I think he’s probably my favorite of the bunch (for now).
WWMTC: Any articulation here with the birds?
TB: Just like with Tally Hawk, the legs and head move and the heads here are also meant to be swappable. I’m really curious why the birds are different between waves 1 and 2, but I do like the option to swap the heads at the very least.
WWMTC: She has three heads, one masked, one slightly expressive and one more friendly. How is the paint / print on them?
TB: Paint is pretty decent, I’d say it falls somewhere between Quicksilver and Bluegrass. Not the best faces but not the worst either, the standard head in particular I think looks pretty good.
WWMTC: Toy collectors have always been skeptical about female figures, but there’s been some fantastic ones from Super7 these last few years, including the recently stunning LJN Cheetara. Is this Steelheart one for the books?
TB: Yes and no. I think she’s pretty par for the course so far, but she’s not my favorite female Ultimates thus far either.
WWMTC: Now that we’ve covered the four core adult SilverHawks, we also know we won’t get CopperKidd until Wave 5, but in the meantime, we’ve got a yellowish/gold robot with saws for hands to deal with still. Saw you later?
TB: Absolutely…the sleeper hit of the wave will round us out.
