While everyone is still reeling with excitement after the reveal of Wave 8 yesterday, we sat down to continue our discussion with ToyBro about the newly released Super7 ULTIMATES! Wave 6 ThunderCats figures. This time, we’re talking about a personal favorite of mine: Cheetara!
WWMTC: Ok this figure right here is a personal favorite of mine, purely because she was the first toy I ever owned (with WilyKit). I have severe nostalgia with this one, so am personally looking forward to getting her in hand. Did you ever own her as a kid?
TB: I actually didn’t. I had the WilyKit that we got at a yard sale or something, but never Cheetara herself. My wife got me one a few years back just so I’d have the core team, I don’t tend to go after vintage stuff I didn’t have as a kid.
WWMTC: Female toys weren’t plentiful back in the day, and we were lucky to get Pumyra and WilyKit too in this line. But Super7 is giving us plenty of females and the show is rich with female characters too. Were you pleased to see her included in this wave or would you have preferred maybe another orange-colored feline?
TB: I think Cheetara is the better option out of “core” Cats. Her outfit stands out as more different than the rest. Tygra and Panthro’s figures were still very close to the show in comparison.
WWMTC: So does this figure scream Cheetara to you?
TB: Yes and no. I mean its absolutely the LJN figure styling of Cheetara, but to ME, the show look is what I remember more, and that’s again just because I didn’t have this one. But they nailed the look I think.
WWMTC Of all the figures in this wave, she feels kinda limited in terms of accessories. She does however have several hands. Is this something that bugs you or do you consider this something that mirrors the vintage toyline perfectly in its offering.
TB: Sort of, but not really. At the end of the day, what I want to display these with are the things they had in the LJN line, so for Cheetara that’s the staff. I like the alt head and hands, but I don’t NEED much else.
WWMTC: I mentioned earlier that she also came with a PVC WilyKit back in the day. I believe it was in series 2. Do you think it would’ve been a good idea to include her with Cheetara here?
TB: Honestly, no. Not before we get the actual figures. I think folks would have reacted poorly if the static figures came out before the new Ultimates versions. Again, something else I don’t NEED, I’d rather have a regular set of Kittens.
WWMTC: Talk about her colors? Do they say vintage to you in big bold letters?
TB: Quite a bit, especially the face. Once again we’ve got a fully painted face and it makes her absolutely pop.

WWMTC: Which face is your preferred one?
TB: I think the standard head is probably the better of the 2, but both are going to have their uses since the expressions are so different. Both have super clean paint too.
WWMTC: Is she an improvement over the cartoon release from a few months back or are they both on par?
TB: Pretty much the same, so she has some issues still, but nothing I wasn’t expecting. Still wish that diaphragm cut did something other than swivel.
WWMTC: Are their any nitpicks in terms of her production?
TB: Outside of wishing for more articulartion (like they did with the female Power Ranger body!), not really. The paint on her is tremendous both in quantity of paint ops and quality, it really helps make her something worth rebuying if you already have the first one.

WWMTC: Now I’ve seen the back of her and I have to say, I do miss that tiny lever there. While it would’ve been silly, that is what my mind keeps on bringing up: the missing lever! Thoughts?
TB: Ha, I’m sticking to my guns on this one. It would be cool, no doubt, but still nothing I need. I wouldn’t be upset if they had done that though, that’s for sure.
WWMTC: Which is your preferred Cheetara?
TB: Honestly that’s a tough call. I prefer the animation look, BUT the toon Cheetara does suffer in some ways due to a lack of paint that would have elevated her. So I still prefer it, but I wish it got some of the paint treatment this new figure got, because this new Cheetara looks great.

WWMTC: We’ve got one more figure to cover. And then we’ll be talking about that big bad boy that is hopefully reaching you soon.
TB: One chocolately Monkey Man coming up soon and HOPEFULLY something big to talk about, I’m getting antsy watching other people receive theirs!
WWMTC: I totally get that. Just got my shipping notice today as well that it’s actually on route to this side of the world. Hey, I may just have mine before you!
